In China, we are helping customers sustainably maximise farm yields – solar and agriculture – as we invest in our first batch of agrivoltaic assets in Guangdong Province.
Agrivoltaics combines agriculture activities with solar photovoltaics (PV) on the same plot of land. The dual-use of land will retain its agricultural production capability while meeting net-zero targets. This is a win-win outcome for both the local community and the environment.
With a total installed capacity of 78 Megawatt-peak across four existing agricultural sites in Dabu County, located in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, this project is expected to generate 91.3 Gigawatt-hours of clean electricity annually when completed in end-2023. This will enable Meizhou to avoid over 91,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
This project will also integrate the solar PVs with 7.8 Megawatt-hours of battery energy storage systems, with the solar-plus-storage model offering stability and resilience to the power grid during periods of high electricity demand and tight electricity supply.
