SP Group raises record S$1 million for ComChest at annual charity golf

Contributions to SP Heartware Fund will benefit over 25,000 vulnerable seniors

SINGAPORE, 2 AUGUST 2024 –SP Group (SP) has raised a record S$1 million for the SP Heartware Fund, towards programmes for vulnerable seniors under Community Chest. The donation is the highest amount raised and presented to Community Chest at the annual SP Charity Golf event on 2 August 2024 at Tanah Merah Country Club.

Since its inception in 2005, the SP Heartware Fund has raised over S$22 million, supporting essential programmes like befriending, counseling, caregiver support, and community care. SP also underwrites the Fund’s operating costs to ensure that every cent raised directly benefits the seniors.
The charity golf tournament and dinner were held at Tanah Merah Country Club, where more than 150 golfers took to the greens. Besides donations from SP’s business partners, the overall contribution comprised the donations of SP employees to the Fund in the past year, which SP has matched dollar for dollar. SP’s customers have also contributed to the SP Heartware Fund by responding to donation platforms via their utilities bills and the SP app.

Ms Leong Wai Leng, Chairman of SP Group, said, “The SP Charity Golf is our annual flagship fundraiser for the SP Heartware Fund, bringing together like-minded partners and creating avenues to multiply good in the community. We celebrate the spirit of giving among our corporate partners, staff and customers who have made possible this record donation of S$1 million to Community Chest, to provide social service programmes reaching 25,000 vulnerable seniors.”

“Community Chest is delighted to partner SP Group in their annual SP Charity Golf event. Their efforts to rally the corporate community to give back consistently to causes that support seniors in need are exemplary. The funds raised will be channelled to programmes serving seniors, supported by Community Chest. These programmes include professional counselling, befriending services, and support for seniors without caregivers,” said Mr Chew Sutat, Chairman, Community Chest.

A notable beneficiary of the Fund is Mdm Catherine Veemaridas, 76, a member of Care Corner Singapore’s Active Ageing Centre in Toa Payoh. Receiving counseling and finding a new support network there helped her overcome depression, exemplifying the Fund's impact in helping seniors age healthily with dignity.
