SP Group secures district cooling and heating energy management project at Chengdu Future Medical City

China and Singapore, 11 December 2024 – SP Group (SP) has secured the bid to operate and maintain a district cooling and heating system at Chengdu Future Medical City, an upcoming world-class healthcare hub in Sichuan, China.

Under a 10-year energy service contract worth RMB 90 million (approximately S$16.7 million), SP will provide end-to-end operations and maintenance of the system, which will serve the Advanced Medical Achievement Transformation Centre (AMATC) at the Future Medical City. The system, which has an installed cooling capacity of 4,800 refrigeration tonnes (RT), will supply chilled and hot water for cooling and heating respectively, as well as steam for sterilisation and humidity control. To ensure reliability and enhance energy efficiency, SP will design and deploy a smart control solution to achieve precise temperature control capability and provide 24/7 supply monitoring and management for the system.

When operational in end-December 2024, this system will deliver significant energy savings per annum for AMATC, reducing electricity consumption by 17.5 per cent and natural gas usage by 40 per cent. This translates to an abatement of 880 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.

Chengdu Future Medical City is a large-scale biomedical hub designed to foster collaboration among academia, research institutions, and the manufacturing sector. AMATC is the core incubation platform for innovation in the Future Medical City, playing a pivotal role in accelerating the development of clinical research for scientific and commercial purposes.

SP will look to expand its energy management service offerings to the upcoming phases of the AMATC development and explore providing sustainable energy solutions to other facilities in the Future Medical City – such as the National Medical Centre, West China East Hospital and West China East Medical College of Sichuan University.

“We selected SP Group as our partner for its strengths in integrated energy management. We were impressed by its all-round competencies and technological capabilities demonstrated in numerous landmark projects for smart industrial parks and medical organisations.
